Is sturgeon fishing/spearing even worth my time? Is it fun?
I want to look into sturgeon fishing/spearing and I don’t know if I will be fun or if its expensive or just plain old boring.

first of all, is it still legal? it would be no more expensive than chopping a hole in the ice and buying a spear. it would be easier in an ice shack because you can see into the water easier. it would be fun in any event just watching the fish react to your spearing decoy, oh. yeah… that’s another thing you would need to buy or make.

first of all the Chance of you catching one is small
It would be fun to catch one, they can get huge but it will take a lot of patience and perseverance. There is a lake in northern Michigan that allows spearing but the limit for the whole season is two fish and you have to enter a lottery for a chance to fish. Once two fish are taken the season is closed. Many times no body gets a fish and lots of people try. Any fresh water that is 80 to 100 feet deep would be a good place to try catching them. Check the legality though, mostly it is catch and release only.
first question, is where do you live? if you live in new york, your in the money, the river just south of Niagra falls is sturgeon heaven, i have a friend who caught a 300#er out there one summer, personally im not one to go spearing, its not sporting in my opinion, but if you have a saltwater size rod and reel with 50# test or higher, you are in for some fun, that is if fighting a 100# or more fish for a couple hours is your idea of fun (i know its definetly fun for me) just look into it, who knows you may just enjoy yourself
