They’re probably the easiest tropical fish to take care of. You need at least a ten , and in it you can put about 5 of them, and you need gravel. You also need a water heater keeping the tank at a temperature of 79 degrees. You also need a very good filter, because they produce a lot of waste. You should probably get one with a Bio-Wheel. Remember to do a 30% water change weekly, clean the filter cartridge weekly, and replace it (the cartridge) monthly. You should also take apart the filter and clean each piece ever two months. Feed your platies high quality flake food, twice a day, whatever they can eat in 3 minutes (feeding more than that will be disastrous). Also always remember to dechlorinate water, and when introducing new fish, I recommend using NovAqua. You need to cycle the tank, too (if you don’t know what this is email me), and use StressZyme to help speed the process. Good luck. I suggest you do a lot of reading about keeping tropical fish before you buy your tank.

I have had platies before. They are very nice and easy to care for.

As far as care goes:
- 10 gallons should be the minimum for these fish. You can probably add 3 in the tank. The tank also needs to be filtered and heated.

- They are very easy to care for.

- Regular fish food will be good. Maybe as a treat, give them blood worms.

- Yes they can live with other mickey mouse platies with no problems. They are actually very east to breed, as well. 1 male + 2-3 females = many babies.

Hope this helps! Don’t forget to lots of other research outside yahoo answers!

Can’t disagree with much FISH! said… just remember the “clean cartridges weekly” does not mean with tap water.Swirl them around in some tank water you drained into a bucket when you do the water changes. You can’t “cycle” with water treatments/dechlorinators…. but if you do try to take the “quick/easy” way,at least use Stress-Zyme instead of Stress-Coat (common mix-up).When in a “hurry” I prefer Prime as the treatment and Stability as the bacteria supplement.

Just a link… I like colorful graphs (I’m so easily entertained))….

I tend to agree with their tank sizing (no offense FISH!) because this takes into account that people are going to add more “community” fish… but if honestly just keeping two pairs of Platys the 10g will suffice (with good care).
