No! You may not have my fish!

No! You may not have my fish!
The Trio are now flying, and catching their own fish. As with all siblings there are occaisional flaps. I watched as the middle one returned to the roost with a fish (that shot didn’t turn out :( ) and the one on the left soon began trying to get a share of it. This is the culmination of the squabble when both of them screamed at each other and displayed their wings aggressively.
The one on the left eventully backed down, but as soon as the middle osprey was full it quickly snagged the left overs (about half the fish) after another small scuffle.
Best viewed Supersized.
I think this one will go on my office wall as a 20"x14" art print.

Wow, what a great capture! You got them in the right moment, to see how they spread their wings is stunning!
They have grown quite a lot.
This "documental" is more entertaining than TV.
This is great.
wonderful shot in natural ambiance, great view and details ;-)
Great capture.
very impressive!!
Great shot! What a family.
great osprey shot – all three of them in one frame!
Unbelievable shots. So good.
We can’t get too many of these.
(Thanks for your generous comment on my "solitary tree" photo. I’ve no answer to the interestingness puzzle.)
Thanks all!
Algo – It’s truly a mystery to me. Your solitary tree should be high up on todays interstingness. This one was #3 earlier but now is out of the top 50…
I have decided I am not going to worry about it much. I take these images for myself and my family mainly, but love to share them with others of a like mind. I am always looking for constuctive feedback to improve my technique, but interestingness doesn’t contribute to those "goals".
Oh well.
Yep – I don’t really care about the various gradings – I just like the comments. But one is intrigued by the interestingness process. A mystery at present.
This is a FINE photo image….
GREAT work by you and your lens… and the fish capture is a nice bonus…
WELL done….!

Wow! This is a fantastic capture! I love it!
Awesome, awesome shot, Eric! Wow…definitely one to frame and enjoy daily!
just incredible, what a fantastic shot Eric. I’m really impressed with the scene and your ability to capture it so well.
Have to view in large size to fully appreciate. Good action capture.
T3 Z5.
Your photos are full of interestingness!
Thank you all!
Con… working on it! Got sprung with company right after posting!
This IS great!!! :)
Wonderful catch – mh – I don’t mean the fish :)
This is just fantastic. We’ll get groups of fledgling finches, and some will peep and flutter at their sidlbings trying to get them to feed them. This is a great deal more impressive shot of the same type of thing. Definitely poster stuff. Beautifully done.
Fighting, like me and my sister when we were kids !;0))
Oh ya!!!
So much osprey life here.
Thanks all!
Yes, a lot of good life there, and I will miss them when they are gone. This roost will probably be empty in another week or so. The osprey whose young are ready will begin leaving for winter grounds in the next weeks. By early September all the osprey will be gone. But it is all good.
Just 25 years ago there were only 9 confirmed nesting pairs of osprey in ll of CT. Now in this area alone there are that many. In the Roger Tory Peterson wildlife preserve further west along the coast there are 25 nesting pairs on a pair of salt marsh islands, making that the state’s largest concentration of nesting Osprey. That area is where Peterson built a number of roosting platforms in the 60′s and 70′s to help the osprey.
you should join the top 2o things with wings pool, it is great to see this.
In Scotland Ospreys are starting to spread again from a severely limited population base, after 100 years of persecution.
The amazing thing is that a pair nested on the top of electricity pylons a couple of years ago and now it seems that the offspring of this pair are now nesting on the top of other pylons. No other ospreys are known to be nesting on these structures in scotland.
It seems if a pair nests on electricity pylons then their offspring get in the habit.
Bizarre birds but very beatuiful.
Thanks Church Collector & Pauls
I was happy to see that they have been re-introduced to Scotland. The offspring do return to the same area and will nest in similar structures to what they were raised in, if those are available.
Saw two more roosts today near where I will be pursuing my marine biology degree. Another 3 juveniles (all large and ready to make the big trip south). Have to figure out which one I will document next year. I think probably the one with the "Trio" (er..the roost in this picture.
love bird action shots. this one takes the cake for me. great job
